Popular Grammy Award-winning artist, Buju Banton, appeared in court this past Tuesday (Feb 22nd) and was found guilty of conspiring to set up a cocaine deal back in 2008.
An undercover sting was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Agency where a confidential informant video and audio-taped Banton testing cocaine in a warehouse in December of ‘08, although he wasn’t present during the actual drug deal that took place two days later. That informant went on to make a whopping $50,000 as commission for his role in the bust.
After deliberating for nearly11 hours on Banton’s fate, the jury returned their verdict of GUILTY. The reggae singer was found guilty of three of the four charges he faced and now faces 15-20 years in prison.
Buju is expected to post bond until his sentencing which has not yet been scheduled.
