I’ve come across some off the wall stories in my time, but this one HAS to take the cake.

A brazen robber broke into a Texas home and stole $20,000 worth of cash and jewelry while the unwitting owners watched TV with headphones on.

Tom and Peggy McElvoy were sitting in their living room enjoying a rerun of legal drama “Jag” when at least one thief sneaked into their bedroom and cleared out their prized possessions.

The couple only discovered they had been targeted when they went to bed near midnight and found the door to their room was locked from the inside.

“Sixty years I’ve been buying presents for my wife,” Tom, 79, said. “They took them all.”

The retirees are hard of hearing and wear headphones while watching television so they can individually adjust the volume to the right level.

They believe the crook approached their home via the patio, saw them sitting on the sofa and broke a glass panel to get inside the property, but they never heard a thing.

They were robbed of a money clip, watches, rings, bracelets, necklaces and a stack of money.

The thief or thieves also took Peggy’s wedding band.

“I hope they have a pang of conscience some time in their life because I worked for what I got, they didn’t do a damn thing,” Tom McElvoy told Texas TV station CW33.

The theft took place between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Monday in Mansfield but no arrests have been made, police said.
