Birdman On Why Lil Wayne’s ‘Carter IV’ Outsold ‘The Throne’

After the official numbers were tallied up yesterday afternoon, Lil Wayne’s Carter IV album reigned supreme in its first week out selling a staggering 964,000 units….more than DOUBLE what Kanye West & Jay-Z’s Watch The Throne album moved during its initial seven days. (Watch the Throne “only” sold 436,000 units.)

And as a result, Forbes writer Zack O’Malley Greenburg made it his point to catch up with Cash Money CEO Birdman to gauge his thoughts on why his young protege outsold Hip Hop’s current Throne.

See what he had to say below.

“I think just the hard work, all the years and everything we’ve been through as a unit,” says Cash Money Records chief Bryan “Birdman” Williams, who was deeply involved in the album’s production and promotion. “It’s our season, that’s just how it goes … [Wayne] is the best doing it, and everybody is just starting to see it. I don’t think any artist in the world is going to be as big as he’s going to be.”- Birdman

Wonder how Jay & Yeezy feel about getting outsold like this…

Thoughts??
