Dr. Dorothy Height was the head of National Council for Negro Women for over four decades and was highly involved in the fight for racial equality since the 1930s. Dr. Height passed away at the ripe old age of 98 after a enjoying a long and full life which she devoted mostly to the never ending battle for racial equality.
President Obama performed the eulogy at her memorial and eulogized that the “Godmother” of the American Civil Rights Movement, citing her humility and fight for the cause: “She never cared about who got the credit. What she cared about was the cause. The cause of justice, the cause of equality, the cause of opportunity, freedom’s cause.”
